Wonpyo Hong began his career as an Organic Chemist after receiving his Ph.D. degree. In the early stage of his career, he worked at a biotechnology company, IGEN International (acquired by Roche Holding, Ltd. in 2004) where he acquired knowledge and experience in biology and biotechnology. He then worked at DuPont Company in 1990-2011 as a leading Principal Investigator of major chemistry projects as well as a patent manager (2004-2008) of company's patent portfolio.
As a patent manager, he led the strategic planning and decision making regarding patentability analysis and patent filing of DuPont's new products and responding to Office Actions regarding DuPont's existing patent portfolio. He authored and filed more than 40 USPTO patent applications and managed a significant size of DuPont's patent portfolio.
Recently, he joined the LRK Patent Law Firm, Vienna VA, as a Senior Associate specializing in the full cycle of patents: in-depth technical analysis of patentability, new patent application filing, and maintenance of patent portfolio in chemistry and biology area in general. His expertise includes patent prosecution in chemical and biological innovations, in particular, the complete drug cycle: discovery, development, process, formulation, biology, composition, and method of usage in pharmaceutical, agricultural, biotechnology and polymer science industries.
He is also experienced in handling small molecules, monoclonal, biologics, biotechnology, inorganic materials, monomer/polymers, catalysts, fibers, semiconductor materials, display materials, chemical engineering, other industrial chemical materials (e.g., solvents, surfactants, detergents, emulsifiers, dispersants, adhesives, cosmetics, etc.), and nanotechnology, etc.
